“Likes” are to Facebook Fan Pages what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is to web pages.

To ensure maximum success for your Facebook Fan Page, you need to provide an incentive for visitors to click the “Like” button on your page.

Once they do that, your posts to your Fan Page wall appear in their news feed. And when they “like” one of your posts, it appears (with a link to your Fan Page or website) in all of THEIR friend’s new feeds. That’s the linchpin of social marketing.

But how do you incentivize visitors to click that “Like” button? Make them an offer that makes it worth their while. A coupon to use in your retail location or online store, or information of a valuable nature.

And the smart money the uses that incentive to build their email list at the same time.

The Gold is in the List

1st Choice Auction needed a website that could be updated easily with information about their upcoming auctions. They also needed a simple way to upload and publish individual photos and a photo gallery for the auctions.

Again, we built 1stChoiceAuction.com on the WordPress Blogging Platform to provide a simple way for the client to keep the website updated. The auctions change frequently and having the ability to keep the site up-to-date was an important consideration.

The website also required a custom template (theme) that used the 1st Choice logo and colors. This was accomplished in an efficient and very cost-effective manner.

Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URLs were enabled in order to provide meaningful page URLs throughout the site – better for search engines to index and easier for visitors to remember.

This site required special care to be taken when converting the site from the Joomla Content Management System (CMS) to WordPress to preserve existing URLs and the Search Engine ranking tha went with them.

Automated backup of vital data is performed automatically. SEO-enhancement plugins and automatic Google sitemapping are included.

Hosting and maintenance for 1stChoiceAuction.com is provided by Orange Cat.

Click the link to visit the 1st Choice Auction website.

Will Tumblr be the Facebook to WordPress’ MySpace?TumblrTumblr stats as of today, June 16, 2011.By Athima ChansanchaiBlogging may be so yesterday to cutting edge technorati and others who like to stay 10 years ahead of the curve, but it’s not going to die anytime soon and now, bloggers seem to be flocking faster to Tumblr than to WordPress.com. Does this signal the beginning of the end for WordPress? Will it go the way of MySpace, while Tumblr ascends to Facebook-like popularity?

I just got back from the Louisville Manufactured Housing Show. The Show itself was a rousing success. There was a very upbeat mood to the show and pretty much every exhibitor I talked to was happy with the results.

Trade shows are one of those places where one picks up a lot of business cards. I was there with the MHMSM.com crew and we received cards from most of the exhibitors and many of the attendees.

One thing about those cards struck me as rather odd here in 2011. Many had no email address and many more had no website URL. Did they not have a website? Or were they doing the “penny-wise, pound-foolish” thing of using up older cards years after having a website?

Doing some quick calculation, I found that fully 61% of business cards collected at the show had no website address. That’s astonishing. If 61% of exhibitors and attendees have no website, I have little doubt that could be a major contributing factor in the falling sales figures for the past few years.

Email addresses on business cards were better, but not perfect. 10% had no email address.

Your business card is your personal-sized billboard. Using every part of it is in your best interest. Website URL and email are essential pieces of information these days.

Here is what my Orange Cat business card looks like:

Notice how we used both the front and back of the card to convey our message. Of the cards we collected, only 5% utilized the back of the card for more information.

You give away both sides when you hand out your business card – use them.

When I began to write this, I was thinking to myself that it was an awfully basic thing to post about. Then I thought about those 61% of business cards that had no email address and the 90% that didn’t use the real estate on the back of the card.

If your cards fit one of these descriptions, think about an immediate update. That little piece of card stock is one of the most important parts of your online marketing strategy.
